non-destructive examination (NDE)

Refers to a range of techniques and methods used to assess the integrity, quality, and properties of materials, components, or structures without causing damage or altering their functionality.

The primary purpose of non-destructive examination is to detect defects, discontinuities, or flaws in materials or structures without the need for destructive testing, which would involve cutting, breaking, or damaging the item being examined. NDE techniques allow for evaluation and inspection while preserving the integrity and functionality of the tested item.
