environmentally assisted cracking (EAC)

Refers to a type of material degradation and failure mechanism that occurs when a combination of environmental factors and mechanical stress leads to pipeline cracks.

EXAMPLE EAC includes but is not limited to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC), stress-oriented hydrogen-induced cracking (SOHIC), sulfide-stress cracking (SSC).
